LOVE & COMPASSION

I voted today. It is early voting, but I wanted to cast my ballot and get it over with. The tension was palpable in the parking lot outside. When I got inside, it was busy busy. Lots of volunteers to show me where to go and what to do. It was like a well oiled machine.

What struck me was that there are two sides in this election. The two stands were directly opposing in the parking lot. But aren’t we all working toward the same goal? We value our freedom and having the right to vote. We all want to make a living and live a life of happiness and fulfillment. But what about the love and compassion missing from this whole process?

I believe that love and compassion area the two key elements to making this life worth living. They are what make it worth getting up in the morning. They are what shape and form our lives as humans, but we seem to have lost touch with them.

I want to challenge myself and all of you to make an effort to show more love and compassion to the people who cross our paths in the day to day activities. It is easy to demonstrate when you care about the person in front of you. So let’s make it more of a challenge and extend this effort to the people who drive us crazy, irritate the snot out of us, and the nasty individuals who cut us off in traffic or shoot a bird at us for doing something they didn’t like. Sometimes showing love and compassion to someone who is just plain mean can change their whole countenance.

I always ask my grandchildren how they would feel if the what they did to someone was done to them? And of course they always reply that they would not like it. But if you really think about it and let it sink in, that should be how we approach every situation.

So get out there and spread some love and compassion today. I assure you, it will feel so very good!
